BOO!

Happy Halloween ladies!!

Who says Halloween is just for kids?  Today at the Skirt Shop, the ladies had a little fun of their own dressing up and of course, eating some treats!
Margarita is in the festive spirit with a pumpkin sewing machine in her island get up.
The force is with Courtney in her Princess Leia costume.
In the bottom right photo, Heather is Lovin' Lucy Zombie Style,
Mary is far out as a flower child, Magdalina is channeling Morticia Addams, while I am spreading my
Sevier Skirt scrap wings!

All the ladies that got dressed up!

Yvonne what did you dress up as?  Just kidding!!!
Kelly is too cool as a Blues Brother.

Hulu Girl Margerita and a very lucky
black cat: Cristina!

Stacy being...well I'm just not sure!
I think I caught her mid raising-the-roof!
Have a great night everyone!  Be safe and get lots of candy!  I will leave you now with a few bad halloween jokes:

Q:What do ghosts put in their bras?
A: Boo-bies!

Q:Who do monsters buy their cookies from:
A: Ghoul Scouts!

Q:What can you say about a bad mummy joke?

SOW: Gotham-Gray

This weeks SOW is far from spooky but lets pretend for this week that it has that Monster Mash quality!  The Gotham-Gray is a beautiful sleek skirt with a sheen to it that says 'fancy'.  This is a medium weight woven with a blind hem.
Sevier
This skirt is great in a Pencil, and works in an A-line too.  Imagine what you would wear with solid black and pair this skirt with that.  Here I have it Halloweened out with this orange jacket and black pumps.  Besides orange, I love this skirt with blue, green, yellow, red, pink, turquoise, black, white and any other color you would wear with black.
Wear this skirt for work or play, all occasions are appropriate for the Gotham.

Original Price: $190
Skirt of the Week Price: $152

Once Upon A Time: Scalloped Lace on Black

Happy Friday ladies! We've made it to the end of our week!!  As we all know, this weekend the Halloween festivities will be out in full swing.  In honor of that, I played a little dress up of my own this morning.  My favorite TV show is Once Upon a Time on ABC.  Though she is not my favorite character, Mary Margaret is the most stylish.  So for this blog I thought, 'What would Mary Margaret wear?'  And here is what I came up with...
Once Upon A Time
The Scalloped Lace on Black Cotton is one of my favorite Sevier Skirts!  Not only is she classic, but ladies, this is a flattering skirt!  Only available in a pencil, and for good reason too!  The straight style is going to leave you with a lean look.
I like this preppy look I have going .  The main thing about this look is the jacket and skirt combo.  If nothing else, find a bright color jacket to really make this look POP!

Have a great weekend ladies!!

SOW: Thomas Wool Plaid-Mustard & Gray

This weeks SOW is the Thomas Wool Plaid- Mustard & Gray!  This medium weight wool is great for the work place.  I don't see this plaid going out of style any time soon so you will get your money's worth with this one!
Thomas
I went for 'Preppy School Girl' with this look!  I love the rich colors so I paired this skirt with a warm red colored sweater.  The yellow in the jacket makes the yellow stripes pop in the skirt.

Other colors I would suggest with this skirt: plum, cream, white, black, brown and navy.  I hope you noticed that I finally completed one look without adding a chambray top!  Just for the record, a chambray top would be killer with this skirt!

I hope you ladies have a great start to your week!

Meet Julie Rice: Breast Cancer Survivor!

It's always a pleasure to meet the women behind our skirts and this time is no exception.  In honor of  Breast Cancer Awareness month, I am proud to introduce you ladies to Julie Rice, a breast cancer survivor!  Julie Rice is a Sevier Skirt customer and was nice enough to shed some light on her  experience and snap some photos of how she wears her Sevier Skirts!
Julie in her Kearney Brown
Julie was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in February of 2009.  Julie did not discover this from a doctor or a self exam.  Oddly enough her massage therapist found a lump in her pec right off the bat during one of her massages.  Immediately Julie went to the doctor where she had a mammogram followed by a needle biopsy, followed by the unexpected Breast Cancer diagnosis.

Julie has no family history of breast cancer, she doesn't smoke, she eats organically and works out every day.  She didn't even realize you could get breast cancer in your armpit, which is basically where she got it.  I didn't know that either.

When diagnosed, her three children (ages 12-17) and her husband were obviously sad, but Julie told them that she would be fine and would persevere and that was that.  Julie believed that God had this in the works for a reason, so she turned her negative into a way to be there for other women going through it too.

With stage two breast cancer, loss of hair, six rounds of chemo and 34 radiation treatments, I am glad to  announce that Julie beat her cancer just as she said she would!
Julie had a lot of support from friends and family.  Phone calls, check ins, and cards were a huge support to Julie.  The most helpful thing Julie said was the meals cooked for her and her family.  It was the most practical thing.

Julie is a supporter of the Army of Women.  They are a breast cancer research organization with the initiative to test 1 million women to find a cure for cancer and new ways to treat this disease.  Sevier Skirts has named the Antique Paisley Pink as our Breast Cancer Skirt of the Month.  Every time you buy an Antique Paisley Pink, we will donate 20% of the sale to the Army of Women.

Thank you to Julie for sharing a bit of your story with us.  Julie believes that had she done self exams more regularly then perhaps the cancer would have been detected sooner.  So do those self exams ladies!  Or better yet, get a massage once a month!  You never know, it could save your life.

Breast Cancer Awareness Skirt!!

Ladies I am so excited to introduce you to our official Breast Cancer Awareness skirt, the Antique Paisley Pink!  For the remainder of October, every time you purchase the Antique Paisley, Sevier Skirts will donate 20% of the proceeds to The Army of Women.

This is a stunning skirt.  The base of this skirt is a rich pink velvet with gold and silver applique painted on.  This is great from fall till early spring.  You can dress this skirt up or down.  Below I have options for both looks.
SOW
I learned about the Army of Women via our customer Julie Rice.  Julie is a breast cancer survivor and is a proud supporter of the Army of Women.  The Army of Women is a charity with two initiatives:

"*To recruit one million healthy women of every age and ethnicity, including breast cancer survivors and women at high-risk for the disease, to partner with breast cancer researchers and directly participate in the research that will eradicate breast cancer once and for all.
*To challenge the scientific community to expand its current focus to include breast cancer prevention research conducted on healthy women."

Please join Sevier Skirts this month in fighting Breast Cancer.  If you have a Breast Cancer organization that you support, I want to hear about it!  Leave me a comment or send it to my email: cpostell@sevierskirts.com

SOW: Olympia Hot Pink

Last week I had a special request for a pink skirt for the SOW to support Breast Cancer Awareness month.  Thank you so much for that reminder.  For the remainder of October, lets keep this topic a recurring theme, shall we?

For starters, this weeks SOW is the Olympia Hot Pink.  This is a great year round skirt.  With a blind hem, it is one of our fancy skirts so I dressed her up below!
SOW
Breast cancer mostly affects women so I made this look extra feminine.  Peplum tops are great for women with no natural curve.  They give the illusion of a small waist and curvy hips.  There is nothing more feminine than an hourglass silhouette.  I like the minimal mixed print look I have going on with the leopard scarf.

Coming up this month, I will unveil our official Breast Cancer Awareness skirt, have an interview with one of our own breast cancer survivors and bring you breast cancer awareness tips along the way.  Want to share your breast cancer story?  Whether you were personally affected or a loved one was, I want to hear your story.  Please email me at cpostell@sevierskirts.com to be featured this month.  In our community of women, the least we can offer one another is moral support, advice, and words of inspiration.  Have a great Monday!!
