Sevier Stylist!

When you see an effortless outfit, do you think 'ugh, it would take me forever to put that together'.  You're not alone.  For many of us, our day to day is too busy to have time for shopping, let alone styling.  Maybe you're a mom and have been consumed raising a human being and are out of touch fashion wise.  Don't worry, thats why I'm here.

Today I broke down one of my favorite looks that our in house stylist, Rachael put together.  The Avalon Brocade Violet is new this season, from dressed up to dressed down this skirt looks amazing.

Why TO wear white after Labor Day!!

Today I revved up my computer ready to get some last minute white outfits in before Labor Day.  I decided before I began preaching about no white after labor day, I better do my research to find out why we can't wear it in the first place.  Here's what I found....(nothing).

There is no actual reason why this rule exists, just like the black and brown myth.  Before air conditioning, to cool off in the summer time you wore white.  In the Fall, you went back to darker colors that were to hot in the Summer.  Its common sense.

In urban settings, darker colors were worn.  If you had the luxury to travel to warmer climates like the beach, you wore white.  The higher class took this to separate themselves from those that couldn't afford travel.  With the changing seasons and back to school, new looks were changed over during fall and the "no white after Labor Day" organically came to be.

Being a Libra, I am constantly looking to both sides of issues and frequently changing my tune when I see that I've been wrong.  Coco Chanel wore white all year round.  If its good enough for Coco, its good enough for me!
Labor Day Myth:White After Labor Day
Post Labor Day White
Charlotte's Web White & Black
Cathedral
A great way to get your feet wet in this trend is to start safe with ivory or an included color.  The Charlotte's Web White and Black shown above is a great mix of light and dark.  You can wear this to work, weddings, church or out on the town.  The Cathedral is another great special event skirt and a safe go-to after Labor Day when you want to lighten up a bit.

If you're going to break a trend, you have to do it right.  The number one rule for Fall Whites is fabric.  Put the eyelets and linens away!  If it looks summery it most likely is.  For example, I love love love the Cheekwood White...for Spring and Summer.
Cheekwood White
Heavy weight cottons, wools and poly blends are the way to go in the cooler months.  The following are great post Labor Day white skirts.
Lily Pad Tan

Mimi Houndstooth
Kearney Flowers White

Now lets talk shoes.  After Labor Day if you're going to wear white, you have to go with closed toed shoes!  Sandals=summer.   Go with pumps, flats, booties or my favorite: riding boots.

Now get out there and break some rules!

SOW: Flash Back-Blue Steel!!

We've got our get-around-town casual skirts, we've got our go-to church skirts.  Every skirt has an occasion or two that its perfect for.  The Flash Back Blue Steel is no exception, making it this week's SOW!  Take this skirt from day to night with an office appropriate look then straight into a night out on the town.

This 100% silk skirt is great for all year round.  The paint splatter print is unexpected and eye-catching in silver blue and black on this light weight steel blue base.
SOW: Flash Back
The Flash Back comes in a classic or a pencil.  With a straighter, form fitting style I always recommend a fuller top.  Tuck it in, belt it or leave it undone, thats up to you!  For the office, you don't want to have an all over tight outfit.  Its uncomfortable and inappropriate so a go-to blouse is a great piece to keep in your wardrobe for your 9-5.

The Flash Backs color scheme is gray, silver, black and birds egg blue.   You already know you can go with a white or black blouse, so theres no need for me to show you that.  Instead, I went with a pop of color.  I love blue and fuchsia together.  The contrast is so attention grabbing.  With that color palette in mind, I went for a bright pink top to contrast the blue in the paint splatter.  I love the navy blazer with this look.  It is unexpected and not your usual black blazer.  Still, very appropriate.  To transition this look to night, lose the blazer, kick up the pumps, grab a sequined clutch and you're good to go!

Sevier Close Up!

You know my favorite thing about Sevier?  Our fabrics of course!  I can spot a Sevier Skirt a mile away with the eye catching fabric that Mary and Suzanne bring us each season.  With their close attention to detail I'd like to highlight their efforts with today's Sevier Close Up!

To our online shoppers, today's blog is for you.  You can't feel and see our fabrics in person, so I'm here to help you out and bring these skirts an inch or two closer to your computer screen!
The first skirt I want to highlight is Suzy's Capri Smoke.  This skirt is the perfect khaki replacement with a twist, or should I say shine?  This light-medium weight sturdy linen base is tastefully stitched with a smoke colored embroidery thread with slight sheen.  The effect is a lightly illuminating look when you walk.  I love the geometric pattern to this classy piece.

Next up we have the Stain Glass.  The water color look to this skirt reminds me of a Van Gogh painting.  With so many colors in this abstract pattern, you will have no problem finding a complimentary top to match.

As always, I am constantly drawn to our LBS's (Little Black Skirts).  What can I say, they go with everything!  When it comes in a medium-heavy weight fabric with structure, perfect for a pencil, I'm absolutely smitten.  If you're looking for a go-to for the office with a kick, go for the Modern Ikat Black this skirt season.

Another great khaki replacement brings me to the last skirt to highlight today.  The Nova Spiral is a subtly fun print to spice up any look.  This medium weight skirt has a very slight texture to it with a raised circular motif stitched in.

1 Skirt, 1 Shirt, 3 Looks!

When you buy a Sevier Skirt, you buy quality.  That being said, you will have the skirt a very long time, so you're going to need more than one way to wear it, right?  I love taking a piece and making different looks for it.  When you can take two pieces and have the same outcome, I call that a bonus!

Today, I took the Westwood Tweed Teal and a staple white button down, and made three looks.
1 Skirt, 1 Shirt
Our first look is ready to be taken out on the town.  The caption 'yow-za' speaks for itself on this one ;) With sky rise stiletto boots, a casually cool leather jacket and studded purse, you're ready to get into some trouble (or at least look like you are).

The middle look is cool, calm and collected.  Perfect for work, the Westwood+white blouse+classy necklace+booties= sporty business attire.  Enough said on this one.

Lastly, the Boho-Chic look is perfect for Sunday brunch with your girlfriends.  Brown immediately drops formality.  With a fun tasseled bag, suede boots, cinched in belted waist, and draped scarf, you will be perfectly effortless.

There are endless ways to outfit your Sevier Skirt.  Whats yours?

Tee-Shirts & Sevier Skirts!!

Are you a tee shirt and jeans kind of girl?  Not anymore ladies.  Take off the pants, and find your favorite skirt.  Now grab your softest, most broken in tee from 'who knows how long ago' and you've got yourself your new favorite go-to look!

I love a contrasting look, be it a flirty skirt with a casual top or something fancy paired with something from the past.  Today I'm going to dive into this look that shows great taste and a lot of personality.

Want to look great, effortlessly in a casual situation?  This look is for you!

Below are four of my favorite skirts to wear a soft, broken in tee with...

Wear it out!
From Left:
Blockbuster Black, Blockbuster Gold, Speckle Wool Teal, Lily Pad Olive
Be it a tee from your favorite band, your alma-mater or from Target, any tee that fits you well will work for this look.

Don't save certain skirts for one occasion only.  I love the Blockbusters in this casual look.   With the Blockbuster-Black, you can wear any shirt you would with your favorite black pants.  With the Blockbuster-Gold, think of it as your khakis and match accordingly.

Style Tip:  Do something fun with your hair.  Usually with your worn in tee, I bet you wear your hair back and out of the way.  Blow out your hair to add some flair and contrast to this casual look.  Finish off with your favorite pair of low maintenance kicks and you're good to go!
