So Fresh and So Clean

You know that tag in the back of your Sevier Skirt that says Dry Clean Only? Well, the truth is, you can wash many (but not all) of your Sevier Skirts, you just have to be very DELICATE.
By delicate, we are not asking you to hand wash your custom pieces, you just need to use a delicate detergent like Roux Maison. Created in Nashville, TN, just like Sevier, this detergent is one of our favorites for it's ability to deep clean while still being super gentle on those extra special fabrics. Roux Maison Detergent is free of toxic chemicals that can shorten the life of your clothes, and here at Sevier, skirt longevity is at the top of our priority list.
Suzanne Sevier Rowland, owner of Sevier Skirts, has been a long time believer in Roux Maison. She personally uses the detergent to wash all her Sevier Skirts, but she doesn't limit this detergent to just her gentle laundry loads. Roux Maison is used for every load of laundry in her household. Delicate Fragrance-Free Laundry Detergent

Just two capfuls of this detergent will leave your clothes, and more specifically your skirts, complete fresh and clean. The all-nautral formula is excellent at removing perspiration salts, body odors, and stains that can collect of your favorite skirt after multiple wears. We like the fragrance-free formula best because it is safe on even the most sensitive skin.

Skirt Care: Wash inside out, on the delicate cycle with cold water and like colors. If you skirt is a cotton embroidery, we suggest using a garment bag. Hang to dry and press with a warm iron inside out.

Stain Remover

The Miracle Worker (as we like to call it), Roux Maison's Stain Remover has gotten out the toughest and most skirt wrecking stains. And believe me, between children, dogs, and life, the Sevier Team sees our fare share of stains.

Skirt Care: Just a dab of this super concentrated formula, and your stain will be no more. Allow the Stain Remover to set in and do it's thing for 15-20 minutes, then follow with a Roux Maison wash, and your stain will be gone. 

***Safe on Most, but not on All***

To see if your skirt can be hand washed, simply look up the fabric name in our online store to see if it is safe to use Roux Maison instead of taking your skirt to the dry cleaners. As for the Sevier Dress, we still recommend you dry your dresses- if not for any other reason than they are extremely difficult to iron.

Fabric, Fabric, and More Fabric!

One of the events I look forward to most in the Spring, beside the kick-off of a new season, is the cross country trip I make out to Los Angeles for the LA Textile Market. Now don't get me wrong, the short trip paired with the long travel time is taxing to say the least- but it is always worth it to see what the fabric mills will be offering a for Spring 2016. 

You might be thinking, "How can you even think about what fabric to buy for next Spring, when this Spring hasn't even really begun?!" Well, it isn't easy, but that's not to say it isn't exciting to think about future collections for you. 

This year, I got to spend the night before the fabric show with my dear friend Polly who recently moved to LA. Even though it was raining like crazy when I arrived at 11pm, we were able to catch up on the past couple of months, and talk about what this Spring had in store for each of us. The visit was short, but it was also the perfect way to spend the night before shopping for Sevier's Next Most Popular Fabric. 

In the morning, I walked down the street from Polly's apartment to the Bronzed Aussie. There, I grabbed a delicious latte and a protein-filled Brekkie-Pie to fuel me for my day. I would highly recommend it if you ever find yourself in downtown LA and need a quick breakfast.

  

With a full belly, I walked a few blocks to the convention center for LA Textile Market. Through the front doors, I was greeted by table after table of fabrics on display: so many beautiful, vibrant spring fabrics! With only 4 hours to work, before making my airport run, I knew I had to quickly get my head in the game, find some inspiration, and then make way up to the Penthouse Floor to visit all the booths.

Inspiration was not hard to find with all the fabric displays. And the vendors did not disappoint with their offerings for Spring 2016. 

In case you were worried, I made it to all my appointments, even found some new vendors, and didn't miss my flight out of the city! It was a whirl wind of a show- as LA always is, but I found some really beautiful things that you are going to love next Spring. Until then, I hope you are enjoying this Spring's Collection! Oscar Style = Sevier Style

The Red Carpet at the Oscars last night had its fair share of ups and down. But here at Sevier, we could help but notice some of the celebrities walking down the carpet with very similar looks to what we have offered this Spring. Scandal star Kerry Washington's Miu Miu gown, looks almost identical to the Adelaide Circle Appliqué in a Maxi.

America's Sweet Heart, Jennifer Aniston, went for a neutral color in her Versace gown. Sevier has many neutrals this season, but our favorite is definitely the Safari Sandstone pictured here as a fitted sheath.

 Naomi Watts' dramatic silver and grey Armani Privé gown reminded us of this season's favorite sequin: The Apache. 

Although we didn't quite like the bubbly cape in the back of Marion Cotillard's Dior gown- we do love the white on white effect. Try a less avant-garde look with a white eyelet like the Thailand Eyelet. 

Nashville Local, Nicole Kidman in a lime green sequin gown by Louis Vuitton. Some critics didn't like her bright look, but we applaud her playful style. Our Limeade Chevron Sequin Pencil is a similar idea, but a more appropriate style and fabric combination.

Nancy Carell in Monique Lhuillier wore a beautiful navy and cream gown. The geometric waist band popped next to the floral lace- Sevier's Kafka Tweed offers the same great color combination, but with a much more causal, every-day look.

Our most popular style got a “Facelift” over the winter holiday. The Sevier Pencil you know & love got all cleaned up- so be sure an have your Fit Specialist remeasure you in the new pencil sizing samples.

 Dresses: Restyled 

Last year we expanded our horizons from skirts and offered you two dress styles. After one season in, and much learning along the way, we have made some edits to the Sevier Dress.

What does this mean? Well it means we are giving you a better fitting bodice with 2 skirt options and 2 sleeve options. In other words, you design your dress.

The Cutting: It’s Electric!

Sevier prides itself in producing your custom skirts and dresses locally in Tennessee. Last season, we made the first step in making our production processes more accurate by implementing digital pattern making. This season we are taking one more step by electronic cutting your custom pieces to precision. Who knew making clothes could get so technical?

Perfectly Plaid.

Plaid is one of those patterns that has been around.  It is constantly being re-imagined but remains a classic look that anyone can wear.  We have pulled some of our favorite Sevier plaids and created easy everyday looks with them.

The first look features our Colorful Delight Pencil.  It's perfect for staying stylish and comfortable all weekend.  We've paired it with a light pink coat to bring out some of the color in the skirt fabric, a warm chunky scarf, and some leather boots.  Put your hair in a messy bun and you're ready to go!

White Hot Winter

Who says we can't wear white after labor day?  In fact, for the past couple years its been fashionable to wear all white attire during the winter months.  Let us show you how it's done... 

We pulled some of our white hot winter skirts and paired them with just the right accessories to make them pop.

The first look is paired with our Cathedral Pencil skirt.  To winterize a white skirt pair it with colors typically associate with fall or colder weather months.  Here, we've added a burnt orange top with a darker grey jacket blazer.  You could also try forest green, Marsala (official color of 2015), or navy blue.  Include seasonal textures and prints like fur and plaid.  We've also added a pair of animal print pointed toe pumps as a fun addition.

For our second look we pulled our Circle Applique Pencil and created more of a night out or holiday party outfit.  We paired it with really luxe fabrics like metallic leather and rich velvet to create a seasonal appropriate look.  Add some shine with a really chunky necklace to elevate your look.  For a fun twist on a black and white look add a wild clutch like this furry yellow one!

Off The Rack Sale

Wear What You Want

Fashion and clothing myths are everywhere these days.  The media, models, high profile professionals, and celebs all tell us what is right for us and our bodies.  Sometimes it can be frustrating to look in the mirror and not see what we think we should see.

Well, listen up ladies because I'm here to tell you that what you see is beautiful!  You can look your best in all types of skirts and dresses.

Usually, clothing in retail stores is made for the masses.  That means they have to look presentable on a variety of body types.  This can leave us with a not-so-satisfied feeling in the dressing room and wondering why this dress doesn't fit me the way we think it should.

It's because that dress isn't made to fit anybody perfectly its made to look OK on a a lot of women.

Our business is custom made women's clothing and with that comes a vast knowledge of dress sizes, measurements, and women's bodies.  One thing we hear all the time that makes us cringe is "I can't wear that type of garment because _____." Well, we are here to tell you that you can wear whatever you want!

Our handmade wreath in action!

Sevier Skirts Gives Back

Welcome to project Cristina.    Earlier this month one of our valued team members, Cristina, suffered a stroke that left her on a ventilator with extremely limited ability.  Feeling helpless, but with the desire to help, we decided to pull together our staff to design and sell holiday wreaths with 100% of the profits going towards Cristina's family.  When a member of our Sevier family suffers we all suffer. Please support Cristina and her family by purchasing a wreath this holiday season.

We have put together 50 wreaths and over half of them have already sold.  Which is awesome! So please, if you're thinking of donating this holiday season, help a member of the Sevier Skirt family.  

All wreaths are $75 a piece and there are two styles to choose from.  The "Christmas Classic" is embellished with a red plaid bow, faux cranberries and pine cones.  It will last 5-6 weeks.

The other is "Christmas Cabin" which has burlap ribbon, fresh eucalyptus, fresh peppercorn, and pine cones.  It will last 2-3 weeks.  

 

Once ordered we we will deliver the wreaths right to your doorstep.  Because of the freshness of the wreaths we are only able to deliver them to Nashville and the surrounding communities.

To capture the versatility of the Chloe Wool Eyelet I've put together two different looks.  One is a causal afternoon look and the second an office to dinner look.  I love how this fabric can pull each off so effortlessly!

I combined the eyelet with a plaid jacket in similar colors to create an interesting dynamic.  Even though both prints are very different they work together so well! The dark blue coat adds a pop of color and keeps you warm.

For the Office to Dinner look I switched out the boots for a pair with a little height and added tights for warmth.  A fur vest over the sweater makes a statement and dresses the outfit up while the crystal necklace gives a little sparkle.  Lastly, add a little color to your lips and your ready to go out!

Trend alert: perfect layers

Hello skirt and dress lovers!  Today's post is going to focus on one of my favorite winter trends: long layers!  With cold weather bringing freezing temperatures nothing feels better than bundling up and staying warm.

One common cold weather myth is that you have to ditch your favorite dresses and skirts for pants.  Not true!  I'm going to show you how to wear your favorite Sevier pieces and still stay warm!  There are so many cozy fabrics in our Sevier library.  Today I will be using our Charlotte's Web fabric in black to show you how to layer your pieces to look chic and stay warm this winter!

The bottom layer keeps your legs and feet warm.  Don't be afraid to mix and match boots, tights and socks.  Adding a pop of colored knee high socks will add an extra layer but also mix up your usual go to tights with boots look!

Look for a high quality leather boot and thick socks.  The leather and fabric will create a barrier between your feet and the cold!

I love this layered look.  The Hunter boots are great for rainy weather!

Rock Your Next Holiday Party

Believe it or not the Holiday season is right around the corner!  This is the time of year when you catch up with old friends, spend quality time with family, and of course attend holiday parties.  For me, when I know a party is coming up one of the first things I think about is what I'll be wearing.  It's important for me to look my best especially around people I haven't seen in awhile.  I usually wear a dress because it's feminine, flattering, and easy to wear.

Shift Dress Holiday Inspiration

One of my favorite bloggers, Katie B from katiebressack.com, specializes in teaching busy women how to live vibrant and healthy lifestyles.  Here are some of her tips for Rocking your next holiday party whether you're trying to impress coworkers or meeting new people and want to look and feel your best.

I love holiday parties! It is a perfect excuse to get out of my yoga clothes and into some fun outfits. What I don’t like is feeling as if I got off track by eating things I normally wouldn’t and drinking more wine than I should. Over the years I have learned some ways to rock that holiday party without feeling it the next morning.

1. Eat before the party! Never show up for a party on an empty stomach. You will consume more food and get tipsy much faster. If you are leaving right from work bring something with you to work or when you go out to lunch pick up something for dinner too.

2. Water! If you are planning on drinking alternative water in between each of your drinks! This will help with the hangover and the conversation you wish you didn’t have with your boss.

3. Napkin test! Place the food on a napkin if it leaves a grease mark you probably don’t want to eat it. This fool proof test never fails.

4. Healthy Options! Avoid the dips and chips but grab the veggies next to them. At holiday parties there will be many temptations, sweets and fried food galore, so before you start eating look at all of the options.

5. Dance! I don’t think it is a party unless there is music. Bring your dancing shoes and have fun. Not to bad for getting your exercise in that day!

Remember these healthy tips but don’t get to caught up in them. It is a party so rock it and enjoy

The Busy Girls Guide To Looking Polished

Welcome to the Busy girl's guide to looking polished.  This post is intended to help busy women like us dress in a snap and still look pulled together.  Here you will find tips and tricks as well as ways to style your skirts and dresses to make putting together an outfit so easy.

Banish the weekday morning struggle by stocking your closet with simple accessories that can go with a multitude of outfits.  A basic color scarf, black or brown ankle booties, and some shimmery stud earrings can take an outfit from OK to adorable in a snap.  I would also invest in a vest!  Whether it's cotton or faux fur, you'll be surprised how often you will reach for it.

 Here are some tips for looking polished on your busiest days!

1. Edit your closet.  This is one of those projects that might take a little time initially, but will benefit you in the long run.  Take out clothes you haven't worn in the past year.  Invest in basic pieces and a few stand out items (like our Godfrey Hounds Tooth!) that can be worn many different ways with your staple wardrobe pieces and accessories.

2.  Don't go too crazy with color.  Yes, we love color!  Our showroom is full of bright pinks, blues, shimmering golds, and statement making prints. The best way to look pulled together is to pick one statement piece, like a sevier skirt or dress and layer it with beautiful basic essentials like a white button down shirt or classic trench.
