If you're on Pinterest or have opened a fashion magazine this season, you know that leopard is in.  In fact, some say that leopard is the new neutral.  I would have to agree with that group!

What's a Tweed Exactly??!

Fashion inspires fashion, so today I headed over to one of my favorite lifestyle blogs, Cupcakes  & Cashmere, to pick her brain or her blog rather for some fashion envy posts.  Living in the skirt world, I love to see how others are wearing their favorite non-bifurcated (two legs) garments.  Her tweed and stripes outfit caught my eye...

So what is a tweed exactly?  A tweed is a smooth wool with a homespun appearance.   The interesting color effect is made by twisting together multiple colored woolen strands.  Tweed is not a pattern, like a herringbone, though it is often woven into like patterns. 

I love the contrast of the pink belt and yellow skirt.  Below, arrow over to check out the three looks I put together with the Amethyst Wool Tweed, Canary Wool Tweed and the Saffron Silk Tweed with complimentary stripes top.

Sevier Skirts favorite tweeds have a soft luxurious feel.  For a warm wool, they are light to medium in their weight.

Above I have three stripes and tweed looks with different accessories to match.

I paired the Amethyst Wool with its complimentary color: yellow.  These colors are made for each other so pair 'em up any time!  For a casual business look, go for comfortable cheetah flats, brown belt and classic trench.

For the Saffron Silk, I went with a fresh mint to contrast the warm orange.  Throw on riding boots for a casually put together look.

Lastly, I have the Canary Wool Tweed.  Again, yellow and purple are complimentary colors so I went a little outside the purple lines with this cranberry number to set the yellow off.  A red belt is a fun way to tie in the cranberry.  Throw on pumps and you've got another great business casual look!

1 Skirt, 1 Shirt, 3 Looks!

When you buy a Sevier Skirt, you buy quality.  That being said, you will have the skirt a very long time, so you're going to need more than one way to wear it, right?  I love taking a piece and making different looks for it.  When you can take two pieces and have the same outcome, I call that a bonus!

Today, I took the Westwood Tweed Teal and a staple white button down, and made three looks. 

Our first look is ready to be taken out on the town.  The caption 'yow-za' speaks for itself on this one ;) With sky rise stiletto boots, a casually cool leather jacket and studded purse, you're ready to get into some trouble (or at least look like you are).

The middle look is cool, calm and collected.  Perfect for work, the Westwood+white blouse+classy necklace+booties= sporty business attire.  Enough said on this one.

Lastly, the Boho-Chic look is perfect for Sunday brunch with your girlfriends.  Brown immediately drops formality.  With a fun tasseled bag, suede boots, cinched in belted waist, and draped scarf, you will be perfectly effortless.

Sevier Color- Opposites Attract!!

Some women have an eye for color.  Without knowing trends or taking style advice, they can look at a store and instantly put coordinating hues together.  For those of us that can't, don't worry there is a science to it!  Or rather, an art. 

Have you ever seen the interesting colors Suzanne (owner) puts with her skirts and wonder why they look so great together?  Suzanne is one of those women that can put together colors without assistance or trends, she just knows.  Today I am going to break down the method to her madness to get you the look!

Starting with the basics, here is what you need to know: 

Primary colors: Primary colors are Red, Yellow and Blue.  They form a triangle on the color wheel.

Secondary Colors: Purple, Orange and Green.  They too form a triangle on the color wheel.

Point:  Secondary Colors and Primary colors are directly across from each other on the color wheel.  This relationship is called Complimentary Colors.  Meaning, they look good together!

The Complimentary Colors are:

RED & GREEN

YELLOW & PURPLE

BLUE & ORANGE

These colors are made for each other, so pair 'em up!

What are the small squares you ask?  They are known as Intermediate Colors.  They are formed when a Primary Color mixes with its adjacent Secondary Color.  Example: Blue mixed with Violet=Blue-Violet.

Don't worry ladies, I am finally reaching my point of how this applies to you, your skirts and your wardrobe!!

When you want to stray away from your staple white or black top and want to add some color, reference the Sevier Skirt Color Wheel below!  

If you're wearing the Nepal Indigo mix it up with its complimentary color, an orange top!  Wearing the Olympia Yellow are you?  Throw on a purple top with it-they are made for each other!

Now the trick is knowing when to use the intermediate colors.  Here's how I use them:  Red and Green scream Christmas to me.  It is a combination I try to avoid.  Here is what I do instead.  I take the Blossom Eyelet Coral skirt and look to see its opposite(complimentary) color which is green.  Well I don't want straight up Green, so I am going to swing to its intermediate colors.  I like the Blue-Green, otherwise know as teal color with the Blossom Eyelet so I'm going to go with that.

Sometimes I don't like bright yellow with bright purple.  So I'll swing to the intermediate colors of Purple and choose the Blue-Violet otherwise known as Royal Blue.  Fuchsia (Red-Violet) will look good with the Olympia Yellow as well.

My favorite color combo right now?  Blue and Coral.  Try it, you're going to love it!

Summer is the perfect time to experiment with these color tips.  No layering makes it so easy to throw on your favorite skirt with a Michael Stars top.  Add a tan and you're good to go!

Once Upon A Time: Scalloped Lace on Black

Happy Friday ladies! We've made it to the end of our week!!  As we all know, this weekend the Halloween festivities will be out in full swing.  In honor of that, I played a little dress up of my own this morning.  My favorite TV show is Once Upon a Time on ABC.  Though she is not my favorite character, Mary Margaret is the most stylish.  So for this blog I thought, 'What would Mary Margaret wear?'  And here is what I came up with...

The Scalloped Lace on Black Cotton is one of my favorite Sevier Skirts!  Not only is she classic, but ladies, this is a flattering skirt!  Only available in a pencil, and for good reason too!  The straight style is going to leave you with a lean look.

I like this preppy look I have going .  The main thing about this look is the jacket and skirt combo.  If nothing else, find a bright color jacket to really make this look POP!

Alright ladies, school is back in session so its time for Art 101.  Today I'm going to take it back to elementary school and go over the color wheel.  Not only will you be able to one-up your kids, but you'll also be able to coordinate your Sevier Skirts with color!
